Static Routing Policy

DLS Internet Services Static Routing Policy

Effective Date: 08/21/2024

1. Overview

This Static Routing Policy (“Policy”) applies to all customers using DLS Internet Services (“DLS,” “we,” “us”) for internet access. This policy outlines the terms and conditions under which static routing services are provided, including the configuration, management, and support of static routes within the DLS network.

2. Definition

Static Routing: Static routing is a form of routing that uses manually configured routes, as opposed to dynamic routing protocols, to direct network traffic to specific destinations. Static routes remain fixed unless manually changed by the network administrator.

3. Scope of Policy

This Policy covers the use and implementation of static routing for all internet access services provided by DLS, including but not limited to fiber, wireless, and other business internet services. It applies to both IPv4 and IPv6 addressing schemes.

4. Static Routing Setup

  • Initial Configuration: Static routes are configured at the time of service activation based on the customer’s specific network requirements. These routes direct traffic between the customer’s internal network and external networks over DLS’s infrastructure.
  • Customer Responsibilities: Customers must provide accurate and detailed information regarding their network topology, including IP address ranges and gateway information, to ensure proper configuration of static routes.
  • DLS Responsibilities: DLS will implement the static routes according to the provided specifications and ensure that routing is functional at the time of service activation.

5. Changes to Static Routes

  • Modification Requests: Customers may request changes to their static routes by submitting a written request to DLS technical support. All changes must include clear and accurate routing instructions, including IP address ranges and next-hop gateways.
  • Processing Time: DLS will process static route change requests within two (2) business days of receiving the request, subject to the complexity of the change and any necessary verifications.
  • Charges: Depending on the service agreement, modifications to static routes may incur additional charges. These will be outlined in the customer’s contract.

6. Service Limitations

  • Route Capacity: DLS will inform the customer of any limitations regarding the number of static routes that can be supported within their service plan. Exceeding the allotted number of routes may require an upgrade to a higher-tier service.
  • Support for Static Routes: DLS will provide support for static routing issues related to connectivity between the customer’s network and DLS’s infrastructure. However, DLS is not responsible for troubleshooting or resolving issues that arise within the customer’s internal network.
  • Network Changes: In the event that DLS makes changes to its network infrastructure that impact static routing, customers will be notified in advance, and efforts will be made to minimize disruption.

7. Security

  • Customer Responsibilities: Customers are responsible for securing their network infrastructure and ensuring that static routes do not expose their internal network to unauthorized access. This includes implementing appropriate firewall rules and security measures.
  • DLS Responsibilities: DLS will not be responsible for any security breaches or unauthorized access resulting from the customer’s misconfiguration of static routes or failure to secure their network.

8. Failover and Redundancy

  • Static Route Failover: DLS does not automatically configure failover for static routes. If redundancy or failover is required, the customer must notify DLS, and this service may be subject to additional charges.
  • High Availability: Customers requiring high availability or failover capabilities for static routing must arrange these features in advance as part of their service agreement. DLS can provide consultation and setup for redundant routing solutions upon request.

9. Policy Violations

Customers who attempt to configure static routes in violation of this policy, or who misuse the service in a way that negatively impacts network performance or security, may have their routing privileges suspended. Continued violations may result in service termination.

10. Policy Changes

DLS reserves the right to amend or update this Static Routing Policy at any time. Customers will be notified of any changes via email and through updates to our website. Changes will take effect thirty (30) days after notification unless otherwise stated.

11. Governing Law

This Policy is governed by the laws of the State of Illinois. Any disputes arising from the implementation or enforcement of this policy will be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of Illinois.
